For many, Mallorca is still the most beautiful (longing) island in the world.
With its typical charm and friendly inhabitants, quaint mountain villages and lively coastal towns, idyllic beaches and endless nature. How could you not feel the Mediterranean lifestyle here? Perhaps a little more, with the purchase of a finca on Mallorca.
It is said that the type of property most associated with Mallorca is a finca. And not without good reason. After all, many areas of the island are characterized by them. And the finca also plays a major role in Mallorca's history.
What today stands for a type of house was originally simply a country estate, manor or farm, or even the property itself. The buildings were simple small houses made of natural stone. So that the farmers could live close to their fields. This was essential, especially during harvest time, given the huge plantations. Over the years, these buildings were repeatedly rebuilt and extended.
It is a tradition to pass down one's own finca within the family over generations. In Mallorca, this tradition can be traced back as far as 1545. In that year, a finca was built in the municipality of Manacor, which is still inhabited today. Even though it has since been adapted to suit the needs of the time, its originality has been preserved. It is considered to be the oldest surviving finca in the whole of Spain.
If you want to buy a luxury finca in Mallorca, you don't necessarily have to purchase a "relic" of history.
This type of house has changed over time. It has moved away from being a "necessity" towards being a private residence - a house, usually in a rural location, with a spacious plot and large garden, which is used for relaxation. Ideal both as a second home and for year-round living.
This can be a Mallorcan farmhouse, a spacious country house or a historic manor house. There is no standardised definition.
If you are looking for spaciousness, tranquillity, independence, freedom, nature and authenticity, you can't go wrong with buying a finca.
Plot sizes ranging from an average of 10,000 to over 30,000 square metres leave room for individual design. With marvellous landscape and panoramic views, some of which extend as far as the sea. A Mediterranean-style garden around the house, with sun terraces and pool, offers bathing fun and an island feeling, even away from the sea. The rest of the property can be used for keeping horses or animals, for example, or can be planted. Small plantations with olive, fruit or almond trees are often part of the property. A finca offers nature in many facets.
Construction areas of less than 200 square metres are a rarity. Of course, there are no upper limits. You can also find 600 or 700 square metres of space.
Some country houses also have a guest area or guest house. Ideal for those who want to offer friends and family a place to stay without wanting to restrict their own living space.
Traditional fincas for sale in Mallorca are becoming increasingly popular. They captivate with their spacious plots and historical charm, without having to sacrifice comfort.
However, new build fincas, modern or even luxurious, can also have an authentic and idyllic charm thanks to the use of traditional elements.
Of course, the location of the property also plays a role. Country houses can be found in the hinterland of coastal towns, in the Tramuntana mountains and in the center of the island. Are you attracted by nature and unspoiled nature or do you want to be relatively close to the beach and the sea?
Ultimately, the "where" and "what" is always a very personal decision.
But one thing is certain: with a finca on Mallorca, you can enjoy the island's typical, original flair all around. Just right if you want to pamper yourself and your senses.
