Properties in Portocolom

It is said that the navigator and discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus, was born in Portocolom. About an hour's drive from Palma, in the municipality of Felanitx, lies Portocolom on the southeast coast of Mallorca. The small traditional fishing village with the largest natural harbour is considered one of the most beautiful spots on the sunny island. Life here is characterised by Spanish and international influences.

In summer, the village is not overcrowded, in winter there is a quiet atmosphere, but there is still plenty on offer. Various sporting and cultural events take place here throughout the year. An excellent mix that speaks in favour of property in Portocolom. Whether as a private holiday home, for wintering or as a resident, the tranquil town also offers diversity when buying a property.

Around Portocolom

The beautiful coastal town is one of the largest protected bays and has retained the charm of an original fishing village. Even today, many locals still live from fishing.

Not overly characterised by tourism, there are smaller hotels and apartment complexes here that blend harmoniously into the surroundings. This is another reason why many residents of neighbouring villages decide to buy a property in Portocolom as a summer residence or second home.

Felanitx, the main town of the municipality, and the original town of Santanyí are around 20 minutes away by car and offer various shopping opportunities. At the weekly markets in both towns, you can find everything from Mallorcan crafts to regional products and food to art. Further south are the popular towns of Cala d'Or and Portopetro. To the north are the towns of Porto Cristo and Cala Millor. With a property in Portocolom, there are many opportunities to organise and enjoy your time on the sunny island.

Discover the village

The original heart of Portocolom can be found opposite the harbour. The church "Mare de Déu del Carme" with its square forms the centre of the old town. Surrounded by old pastel-coloured houses, some of which have been stylishly renovated, the alleyways invite you to take a leisurely stroll. If you can do without a sea view when dining, you will also find some very good restaurants here.

The waterfront is lined with cafés and restaurants. Everything from traditional to international cuisine can be found here. If you don't want to prepare fresh fish specialities yourself, Portocolom is the place for you. The coastal town and its surroundings are a paradise for gourmets.

If you want nature and the sea

In addition to the main beach (Cala Marcal), there are a few small beaches nearby. If you want to go diving and snorkelling, there are countless cave systems on the southeast coast.

Bikers and hikers have the perfect starting point to explore the natural and historical sights around Portocolom: The "Far de Portocolom" lighthouse, unspoilt bays, caves, castles, monasteries, almond groves or the vineyards of the "Pla y Llevant" region.

Not far from the trendy holiday resort of Cala d'Or, the 18-hole "Vall d'Or Golf" course is open all year round. Pine, olive and almond trees surround the hilly fairways of the first nine holes. More expansive towards the coast, the second nine holes (the original part of the course) offer the finest sea views. Thanks to the light Mediterranean breeze, golfers won't break a sweat even in summer. The "mAxime" clubhouse, which is open to the public, is located on the top of a hill. With its marvellous view over Cala d'Or and Portocolom, it is also a popular destination for non-golfers.
